The Black Business Suppliers Development Programme (BBSDP) is a cost-sharing grant offered to black-owned small enterprises, to assist them in improving their competitiveness and sustainability when participating in the mainstream economy.
The BBSDP was established as a pilot project under the auspices of the World Bank in 2002, and was taken over by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) after its inception. Grants of up to R800,000 are available for tools, machinery and equipment; and up to R200,000 for business development and training interventions. These grants aim to improve the eligible business’s corporate governance, management, marketing, productivity and use of modern technology.
Phila Development Agency is an approved Network Facilitator (NF) or independent contractor that acts as a broker between the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and black enterprises seeking assistance under BBSDP. By soliciting applications from these enterprises, Network Facilitators are privy to sensitive business information and are thus expected to abide by the principle of uberrima fides, or ‘’the highest duty of good faith, integrity and honesty’’ towards the applicants.
